Christopher Wayne Bess was born on April 9, 1963, to the parents of George White, Sr., and Jessie Mae Bess in Monroe, Louisiana. At a very young age, Chris moved to Sicily Island to live with his grandmother. Chris was baptized at a very young age. He graduated from Sicily Island High School in May 1981. In high school, Chris played football and basketball. After graduating from high school, he worked for the State of Louisiana. In 1984, Chris married Beverly K. Thomas from Gilbert, Louisiana. They moved to Austin, Texas, in 1986, and to this union, no children were born.
Chris worked in the field of security for (34) thirty-four years until his death. Chris was an advocate for playing basketball. He played basketball in “Hoop It Up” or “3 on 3” for several years, traveling to and from cities in the surrounding Texas area. He won numerous awards and trophies and was even interviewed and published in the Austin American-Statesman. Chris thought he had arrived. Chris loved spending time with his family and friends, hosting dinners, and welcoming everyone. Chris’s specialties in the kitchen were chicken cordon bleu, fried fish, and chili. Chris was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Chris is preceded in death by his grandmothers, Corine Mae Bess and Liddie Cohea (Mother) Jessie Smalley; grandfathers, Jessie Mae Smalley (Father) and George White Sr. (Brothers); Peter LaRoy White and Lee Edward Swayzer.
Chris is survived by his wife, Beverly K. Bess; two sisters, Lisa Swayzer and Krishcell Gilliam, both of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and three brothers, Kenneth Ray White, Sicily Island, Louisiana, George White, Jr., Washington, and George Gillian of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Chris is loved by a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, relatives, in-laws, and friends.
