Chastity Butler Obituary

On April 20, 1975, in Tallulah, Louisiana, Charlie, Sr., and Rosia Lee Jones Butler welcomed into the world the ‘baby’ of the family, #8, Chastity April Butler.

Chastity was educated in the public schools of Madison Parish, having attended kindergarten and elementary school at Wright Elementary and then middle school at Reuben McCall Jr. High. She graduated in 1993 from Reuben McCall Sr. High as the class Salutatorian. Following in the footsteps of her older siblings, Chastity enrolled at Southern University and A&M College, Baton Rouge, in the summer of 1993. She later transferred to the University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) where she received her B.A. and later her M.A in Clinical/Counseling Psychology at the University of Louisiana in Monroe Class of 2003.

Chastity’s greatest decision in life was to accept Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord in Tallulah, Louisiana, at the age of twelve joining the congregation of believers at St. John M.B. Church in Somerset, Louisiana.

Chastity moved to Monroe, Louisiana, in 2000 and has been used by the Lord in the marketplace to bless many people through her counseling, philanthropy, and community service. At the time of her passing, Chastity was a LPC-S Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and Mental Health Therapist, in the position to mentor provisional counselors on the path to becoming licensed.  She was the owner of C.A. Butler Counseling & Consulting, LLC where she provided services as a consultant with several area outpatient mental health and substance abuse agencies. In 2022, she was appointed by Governor John Bel Edwards to serve on The Louisiana Professional Counselors Board of Examiners.

Additionally, Chastity was a board member for the Monroe Regional Black Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Omicron Iota Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the Lotus Club, and many other civic and social organizations.

Chastity was currently pursuing a doctoral degree in the University of Louisiana Monroe’s Curriculum & Instruction Program for an Ed.D, which she began in 2022. Chastity was ABD having begun the dissertation process.

In Chastity’s leisure time, she lived life to the fullest. She was a landlord, investor, and digital content creator where many looked forward to her daily dose of wisdom. Chastity travelled extensively and considered herself a ‘foodie.’ She poured herself into her grandchildren and their friends, becoming ‘Super Mimi.’

Chastity leaves to cherish the story she has written: her son, Cameron Sims (Bryana Buie); three adorable grandchildren, Kameryn Faye, Kenleigh Grace, and King Fitzgerald, all of Monroe, LA; three fur boys, Deuce, Whiskey, and Buddy; siblings, Cassandra Cotton of Las Vegas, NV, Dennis Butler of Vicksburg, MS, Dr. Doze Y. Butler of Baker, LA, Deborah Butler of Decatur, GA, Donna Bowie (Reginald) of LaPlace, LA, Gregory Butler of Shreveport, LA, and Dr. Charlie Butler, Jr., of Tallulah, LA / (Sonya) Missouri City, TX; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces, other extended family, and dear friends.

Chastity was preceded in death by a daughter, Reign De’ani Smith; beloved parents, Charlie Butler, Sr., and Rosia Lee Butler; sister, Gay Butler; grandmother, Rachel Jones; and grandfather, David Jones.
