Catherine Evans Johnson

CATHERINE EVANS JOHNSON, a devoted child of God, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 73.

Born on September 3, 1952, Catherine lived her life guided by her faith and a deep spirit of perseverance. She was known by all who knew her as a hardworking, resilient, and fiercely dedicated individual. Throughout her life’s joys and challenges, she remained a steadfast fighter, confronting every obstacle with grace and dignity. Following a courageous health battle–during which she fought through two heart attacks and persevered through rehab therapy–God showed up, and His grace and mercy opened the gates to His Kingdom for His daughter. On that day, Catherine walked on in, a legacy of faith, strength, and love.

At an early age, Catherine confessed and accepted Christ, joining the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend L.M. Christian. She later rejoined the church and stayed a dedicated member until her death under the leadership of Reverend Johnny Green.
For 34 beautiful years, Catherine shared a life of love and devotion with her beloved husband, Roosevelt Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Elaine Evans; one sister, Attee Willis Moore; and one brother, Jackie Lee Evans.

Catherine leaves behind a beautiful family to cherish her love and memories, including her husband, Roosevelt  Johnson; two daughters, Carla Evans of Dallas, TX and Claudia Evans of Bastrop, LA; and son, Christopher “Soul” Evans of Bastrop, LA. She is also survived by her sister, Joyce Evans Bennett (Danny) of Mer Rouge, LA; two brothers, Ronald Evans (Ruth) of Lawrenceville, GA, and Robert Evans; seven grandchildren, Shemethia Evans Battle (Contravious), Markell Evans, Jessie, Jasmine, Amarisha, Ariyah, and Isaac; and 12 great-grandchildren, Tafari, Khamarous, Linara, Mehlani, Mariah, Za’Marion, Ameria, Jamiya, Henderious, Hendazieyah, Jeremiah, and Derrick. She will also be deeply missed by her special cousin, Eleanor Brown Mitchell; special daughter, Zessie “May” Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

While Catherine will be deeply missed, her family takes great comfort in knowing she is at peace,resting in the glorious kingdom she worked so hard for.
