Carolyn Lois Washington was born on August 23, 1958, to Gloria Dean Ross and Willie Lewis Coston. She was adopted soon after birth by Reverend Dr. Benjamin and Mable Washington. She was preceded in death by her birth parents; adopted parents; God parents, Ernest and Emma Davis; son, Benjamin James “BJ” Washington; sister, Donita Key; brother, Darrin Edwards; sister, Edwina Williams; godsiblings, Carolyn Fuller, Ernest Davis, Jr., and Henry Davis; and cousin, Zina Edwards.
“Lois,” as she was affectionately known, was baptized at an early age at Free Gift Baptist Church where her father, Reverend Dr. B.J. Washington, served as pastor. It was there that she discovered her love for music, learning to play the piano by ear by age ten. Throughout the years, she was a musician at several churches throughout Northeast Louisiana including Shiloh Baptist Church, Zion Hill Baptist Church, First Pilgrim Baptist Church, St. Phillips Baptist Church, Faith United Baptist Church, Antioch Baptist Church, Union Hill Baptist Church, Free Gift Baptist Church, and several others. At her passing, she was a member and musician for Faith United Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Alex Earl.
Lois was educated at Little Flower Academy and graduated from Wossman High School in 1977. She also took music lessons with Mrs. Saunders and attended Robinson Business College, where she became a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Lois was a loving mother to her sons, Alexander and B.J., and adored her eight grandchildren. Lois was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Mary Goss Nursing Home. She leaves to cherish her memory: son, Alexander (Crystal), and their four children, Byron, Alexander, Jr., Ava, and Gavin; daughter-in-law, Yoshika (BJ), and their three children, Tora, Keina, and Minami; grandson, Benjamin Galloway (BJ); great- granddaughter, Charlene Galloway; sister, Verlinda Gooden; brother, Antonio Edwards; godsisters, Patricia Moss, Toronda Griffin, and Minister Bessie Clay; godbrothers, Neal Davis, Reverend Charles Davis, Ronnie Davis, Danny Davis, and Lanny Davis; nieces and nephews, Felisha Bodie, Vernesha Gooden, Paula Gooden-Wade, Roshonda Butler, Dovell Key, Montrell Edwards, Antonio Edwards, Jr., Ashanti Patrick, Davion Edwards, and Melissa Taylor; and a host of cousins, including Patricia Morris and Pamela Turner, who were like sisters to her.
