Carolyn Thornton Obituary

Carolyn Burnette Williams Thornton was born on January 31, 1964 in Jackson Parish, Louisiana to Horace Williams, Sr. and the late Annie Ruth Williams.  Carolyn was baptized at an early at the St. Clair Baptist Church in Chatham, LA.  She united with the Union Missionary Baptist Church after meeting and becoming an instant daughter to her future mother-in-law, Alynne Johnson Compton.

Carolyn attended Chatham High School where she was a member of the basketball and track teams.  She was the first young lady to compete in the Louisiana State Meet for Chatham High School in the High Jump category.

Carolyn moved to Columbia and worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).  She was a hard worker and spent most of her adult life caring for others.  She was there for anyone who needed her help; family, friends, etc.  She worked for several health care providers, including River Bend/Caldwell Memorial Hospital, Columbia, LA, Long Leaf Hospital, Ruston, LA, Hospice Care, Olla, LA, and the Haven Nursing Center, Columbia, LA.

After being in Columbia for several years, Carolyn met and married her life mate, Mitchell Thornton, Sr. of Columbia LA.  Carolyn and Mitchell were the parents of (9) children combined, (24) grandchildren and one very Special Godchild, Isaiah Andrews, who stole her heart and gave “Mitch” a run for his money.

She was preceded in death by her mother; Annie Ruth Williams, one sister: Debra Andrews, two brothers: Bobby Stelle and Norman Williams, and one nephew: Cartavious Williams.  Carolyn gained her wings on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at her home in Grayson, LA.
