Brenda Mack Chatman, also known as “Black,” was born in Coldwater, Mississippi on November 29, 1958. She was the second daughter and fifth child of Freggie Mack, Sr. and Pearline Echols Mack.
Brenda, at an early age, was baptized at Piney Grove Baptist Church. She later became a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Ike Byrd, III.
Brenda married Henry Chatman, Sr. and to this union, six children were born: Nancy, Nikita, Henry, Jr., Reketha, TaNasha, and NaTasha.
Brenda was also a grandmother to Tyshunna, Marquis, DeMartez, ShaTonia, Dontavious, Montoni, Antonio, Jr., DeMarcuz, TaNijah, Troniqua, Janual, Jr., J’Maiyae, Joshua, Harmony, Tia, Samuel, and Heaven.
She was also a great-grandmother to Jada, LeVontae, Jr., and Ma’Leiyah.
Brenda is preceded in death by her parents, Freggie, Sr. and Pearline Mack; two brothers, Derrick Echols and Freggie Mack, Jr; and one sister, Shunda Echols.
Her journey came to an end surrounded by family and loved ones.
Brenda leaves to cherish her memories: her children, four brothers, Charles Mack (Selena), Melvin Mack (Brenda), Gregory Echols (Tiana), Willie Echols (LaKita); four sisters, Shirley Ester, Vernisa Mack (Kenneth), Rita Mack, and Debra Jackson; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
