On November 3, 1951, a precious baby boy was born to the late Rosie B. Shine and Sammie Johnson in Monroe, LA. Billy lived with his family in Oak Ridge, LA, during much of his childhood years, and after high school, moved to Bastrop, LA, where he resided until his earthly departure. Billy attended Delta High School and was a 1972 graduate.
On October 25, 1975, Billy married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Maxine Green, under the leadership of Pastor Freddie Smith. To this union two children were born, Stefan and Lanitra. Billy and Maxine had been inseparable for over 49 years, 46 of which they were married.
Billy was a dedicated and loyal employee at Georgia Pacific Paper Mill in Crossett, AR, for 41 years. He was an amazing employee at the tissue plant.
Billy learned early on in life that Jesus was the Way, the Truth, and the Light. He became a dedicated member of Greater Smith Temple COGIC, under the leadership of Bishop J.R. Liggins until his demise, and was currently serving under the leadership of Superintendent Henry Liggins. Billy was a very active deacon in the church, often leading prayer, teaching Bible study and Sunday school, and he was always willing to work in any capacity within the church.
Billy leaves to cherish his precious memories: his wife of 46 years, Maxine. He also leaves his legacy to be cherished by his God-given gifts, his two children, Stefan and Lanitra (Michael), and his grandchildren, J’viere Johnson and Aaleyah Johnson, whom he adored so much. Billy also leaves to cherish his memories, his siblings, Carl (Dorothy), Lora, Joyce, and Janice; two aunts, Polly Johnson and Daisy Edmonds; one goddaughter, Keola Damon; and a host of nieces, nephews, community friends, and associates.
