Azzie Lee Thompson Ross was born in Winnsboro, LA on November 2, 1925, to the late Robert Lee Thompson and the late Maybell Welch. She exchanged her earthly home for her heavenly home on Sunday, May 15, 2022. Azzie Lee Ross accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Pleasant Star Baptist Church in Winnsboro, LA under the leadership of Rev. G.C. Carr. Later in life she moved her membership to Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church of West Monroe, LA under the leadership of Rev. W.W. Fletcher, where she served as: Mother of the church, hospitality chairman, a member of the Good Shepherd Lodge and the mission ministry as well as, a faithful member of the Adult Women No. 2 Sunday School class.
Azzie Ross attended Fort Necessity school system in Fort Necessity, LA. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Chapter Calanthean. She was a dedicated employee for the Gentry family for numerous years.
Azzie Ross is preceded in death by her late husband, Sam Ross; her father, Robert Lee Thompson; her mother, Maybell Welch; her daughter, Janell Ross; her sisters, Mattie Lue Thompson Swiney, Eloise Thompson Marshall; and her brothers, Fred Thompson, Willie Thompson, Rudolph Thompson Sr., and Ernest Thompson, and bonus daughter, Jan Gentry.
She leaves to cherish those she loved dearly: (4) daughters, Shelly Linzy (Otis), Jan Ross, Ruby Kyles (Sam), Sarah Ross all of West Monroe, LA; (6) sons James Ross (Susana) of San Diego, CA, Dennis Ross (Rosemary) of West Monroe, LA, Willie Ross (Pineville, LA), Gregg Ross (Linda) of Monroe, LA, Apostle Don Ross (Vera) of West Monroe, LA, Kenny Ross (Sheila) of Monroe, LA; (2) sisters-in-law Lattie Davis and Edith Robinson both of Winnsboro, LA; (2) bonus daughters Kim Williams (Ruston, LA) & Ganell Gentry (West Monroe, LA); 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, close relatives and friends.
