“Come Unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” - Matthew 11:28
Arthur Wayne Harvey was born August 20, 1958, to the late Fonzie and Willie Harvey in Crowville, Louisiana. Wayne, as he was lovingly called, accepted Christ in August of 1964 and worshiped at the Philadelphia Baptist Church of Crowville, Louisiana under the leadership of the late Rev. Eugene Lumpkin, Sr.
Wayne received his Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education in May of 1982 from Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas. He was inducted into the United States Army that same year on December 1, 1982. A career service person, Wayne dutifully served 23 years, both stateside and overseas. He retired with honors on November 30, 2005 as an E-8 Master Sergeant.
Those who knew him, knew that Wayne was a quiet, thoughtful, and loving person. He had friends far and near. He united with the Greater Free Gift Baptist Church of Monroe, Louisiana on Sunday, July 14, 2013 under the leadership of Bishop Rodney McFarland, I. At the time of his death, he was a faithful deacon of the church.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Larry and Paul Harvey; and sisters: Barbara Jones and Emma Jewel Green.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his son, Wayne Strode of Plano, Texas; a god-daughter that he loved as his own, Summer Clark of Monroe, Louisiana; one sister, Brenda Harvey of Dallas, Texas; two faithful cousins, Faye Lee of Winnsboro, Louisiana and Carolyn Collins of San Mateo, California; a special nephew and niece, Nekieta Harvey of Dallas, Texas and LaToya Wright (Richard) of Allen, Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Wayne fought a good fight. He finished his course. He kept the faith and departed this life on June 8, 2022. Wayne answered the call of that welcomed voice saying, “Well done my good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of the Lord.”
