Obituary Annie Lee (Whitty) Graves-Bass, affectionately known as “Anna Lee,” was born on August 14, 1951, in Monroe, Louisiana. She was the beautiful and beloved daughter of Herman Whitty and Bertha D. Johnson-Whitty. Our dear mother peacefully departed this life on December 18, 2025, at St. Francis Medical Center, surrounded by her devoted children, grandchildren, and loved ones.
Anna Lee accepted our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age, which was the foundation she later embraced. She was raised in Alto, Louisiana, until the age of nine, when her family relocated to Monroe,
Louisiana. There, she attended Carroll High School, where she blossomed into a spirited young woman and proudly served as a cheerleader.
Anna Lee was an avid reader with a particular fascination for medical books, always eager to learn and expand her understanding of the world. She possessed a remarkable green thumb and found great joy and peace in gardening, lovingly referring to her plants as her “babies.” An extraordinary cook, she loved introducing her children and others to international cuisine, teaching them to first imagine and marry flavors before bringing a dish to life. Her love for fashion was undeniable; she was effortlessly stylish and ahead of her time, embodying a look best described as a beautiful blend of Diana Ross “The Boss” era and the late, great Donna Summer.
Above all, Anna Lee was the beloved mother of thirteen beautifully unique children, eight sons and five daughters who loved her beyond measure. Her colorful spirit extended far beyond her own children; she
was deeply loved and respected by many who grew up alongside them, all of whom she welcomed into her home and embraced as her own.
Anna Lee was preceded in death by her parents, Bertha D. Johnson-Whitty and Herman Whitty; brother, Roosevelt Whitty, Sr.; spouse(s), Lavell Graves and Joe N, Bass, Sr.; and beloved daughter, Joey Nadine
Bass.
She leaves to cherish her precious and vivid memories: four daughters, Natasher N. Whitty of Illinois, Terrie L. Graves of Tampa, Florida, Camille Britton (Cedric) of Tampa, Florida, and Cameron Bridges (Jarvis) of Denham Springs, Louisiana; eight sons, Lavell L. Graves-Whitty (Kisha) of Monroe, Louisiana, Reginald G. Graves-Whitty (Danika) of Denham Springs, Louisiana, Foster S. Graves of Monroe, Louisiana, Ronald F. Graves of West Monroe, Louisiana, Brandon M. Bass (Albert) of Texas, Jewell M. Bass (Toya) of Monroe, Louisiana, Dakota “P” Bass of Monroe, Louisiana, and Travillion Bass of Monroe, Louisiana. She also leaves a sister, Helen M. Jackson of Monroe, Louisiana; a very special niece, Cassandra Whitty of Baton Rouge,
Louisiana; a very dear friend, Margeaner Foy of Monroe, Louisiana; thirty grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones.
Anna Lee’s legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, and the lives she touched.
