The life of Alfred David Newton, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, cousin, and friend was born in Farmerville, LA, July 19, 1944, to Mr. and Mrs. Alfred and Louise A. Newton. He accepted Christ at an early age at the Mount Union Baptist Church in Marion, LA. Just recently, he united with Olive Branch Baptist Church, under his grandson, Pastor Michael S. Thompson, Sr., and remained until God called him home.
Alfred was educated in the Union Parish school system in Farmerville, LA, where he graduated from Eastside High School. He was married to Zenna Timmons Newton. Alfred was employed at the Theorematic Carbon Company for many years, and later, he was employed at Graphic Packaging for 34 years.
He loved spending time with his family and friends and was affectionately known by his grandkids as “Pawpaw” and his close friends as “Fig.” Alfred was the president of the Back Forty riding club for many years. Anyone that really knew Alfred knew that if you went by the house, you would find him watching Gunsmoke and all other western shows.
He was also a member of King Hiram Lodge #244 with Brother Frank Marles as Worshipful Master (32nd Degree). He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Alfred and Louise Newton; sisters, Christine Newton Roberts and Mary J. Newton; Rivers; and son, Michael R. Newton.
Alfred leaves to cherish his memories to his wife, Zenna Newton; two sons, Timothy Newton (Toni) of Baton Rouge, LA, and Cedric Newton (Brandy) of West Monroe, LA; one daughter, Crystal Richards of West Monroe, LA; two brothers, Percy Armstrong of Monroe, LA, and Donald Armstrong (Yolanda) of Monroe, LA; two sisters, Linda Armstrong of Chicago, IL, and Clora Mayfield of Shreveport, LA; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Richards (Daphene) and Earl Timmons (Bessie); he also leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
