Mother Bennie Lee Stewart Spencer was born October 15, 1940 in Tallulah, LA. She was the first daughter of four of the late Brother Freeman and Sister Stella Lee Stewart.
She departed this life July 8, 2019 at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe, LA.
Bennie Lee was baptized at the age of twelve at the Zion Spring Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend K.B. Long. When she relocated back to Ouachita Parish, she reunited with her family at Spring Hill Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend S.L.V. Johnson. She had been attending the Greater Free Gift Missionary Baptist Church since 1995. On October 24, 2010, she officially joined under the leadership of Bishop Rodney McFarland, I, and he immediately appointed her to the Mothers’ Ministry.
During her life, Bennie Lee united in marriage with Morris McDean Spencer, Sr. Together, they reared six children.
Bennie Lee attended Little Flower Academy, Booker T. Washington Elementary, Carroll High School, and Miles High School. She received her Certified Nurse’s Assistant certification from Delta Vocational School in West Monroe, LA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Freeman and Stella Lee Stewart; sisters, Sammella Stewart and Brenda Bridges; son, Johnny Ray Stewart; daughter-in-law, Shirley Stewart; and one grandson, Wilfred Stewart.
Bennie Lee will be sadly missed by her children, JoEtta Stewart (Fred) of Atlanta, GA; Sheryl Spencer-Madison of Monroe, LA; Morris Spencer, Jr. of Houston, TX; Brian Spencer (Nina) of Monroe, LA; and Mary Lou Spencer-Thompson (Guy) of Roanoke, VA; eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one sister, Bertha Stewart-Hampton, a life-long friend Bonnie Wade, a god-daughter, Lisa Cooper-Murphy, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
