Irene Dunn Cornist was born to the late John and Lelia B. McDowell Dunn on May 8, 1948 in Franklin Parish. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Bellview Missionary Baptist Church where she served as an usher. For a period of time, she resided in Lakeland, Florida where she became a dedicated member of the Greater New Jerusalem Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Dr. J. L. Downing. Upon her return back to Delhi, she re-united with Bellview Missionary Baptist Church and served faithfully as a Mother.
Mother Irene leaves to cherish her precious memory, her husband Azell Cornist, Sr., Daughter, Alecia Dunn Gix of Monroe, Louisiana; Step-daughter, Roxie (Timothy) Smith of Lees Summit, Missouri; Grandson, Mikhail (Star) Ballard of Palestine, Texas; Sisters, Earlie (O.J.) Smith, Jr. of Daphne, Alabama, Willie M. (Fred) Neal, Sr., Ammie Dunn and Carrie McCall all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Brothers, Eddie (Joann) Dunn, Sr. of Delhi, Louisiana, Calvin Dunn of Simpsonville, South Carolina and Lee Arthur Dunn of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Sisters-in-law, Etta Dunn and Linda Dunn; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Grandson, Camron Dunn; Brothers, Spurgen, Walter, Darnell, and Henry Dunn; Sister, Doretha Hamilton and Step-son, Azell Cornist, Jr.
